Insects of Surinam Series — Canadian photographer Dominique Paul allows us to understand that the transformation of insects occurs naturally while that of the human body is made consciously. It is a text that uses insects’ metamorphosis as a metaphor for the desired transformation of the human body. By replacing the images of insects in his photographic collages with images cut out from contemporary publications of masculine, tanned, highly slender and very muscular bodies, a parallel is drawn between the natural mutation of insects and the unnatural mutation of the human body supported by the technique and commercially inspired with the only purpose of fulfilling a desire.
